It is no secret about the beauty industry being one the fastest growing and lucrative businesses in the world. The industry is generating an estimate value of $532 billion a year, according to retail analytics. Being a licensed cosmetologist and product creator for the pass 10 years, I've experienced growth of the industry first hand. I can tell you that it will continue to grow. The amount of content creators using social media platforms to view beauty products are on the rise, and help brands to increase sales. Retailers who launch their own product line and beauty brands have more control of pricing in order to appeal to a specific demographic of consumers. Women know what appeals to specific women giving them a huge edge on marketing. The beauty industry has changed over the years to producing safe chemical and toxic free products. This practice has forced beauty brands to be transparent regarding listing the source, origin, and in some cases the cost of materials used to create the products. Healthy care products are costly to produce as chemical free materials are expensive. Transparency provides consumers with justification of a high priced beauty product. Most healthy care beauty products are used in small amounts, which provide longevity along with the amazing results from the products. Women do not mind spending money on a good product that actually works for their beauty needs, which is why women are successful in this industry. The beauty industry is considered a gold mine for women entrepreneurs. Small and privately owned beauty businesses are being bought by beauty and cosmetic giants, which increase the success of start-up beauty businesses. In 2015, cosmetic giant L'Oreal bought a small cosmetic company started by Toni Ko for $500 million. The cosmetic line featured high quality colorful eyeliners and lip glosses sold at drug stores at drug store prices. Toni Ko is now worth $270 million and ranked 57 among the richest self-made women list. In 2016, L'Oreal also acquired IT cosmetics for $1.2 billion. IT cosmetics was privately owned by former TV broadcast journalist Kern Lima. She netted a total of $410 million from the ownership and the sale of her company, ranking her 41 among the richest self-made women list. Women entrepreneurs in the beauty business are constantly bringing products to the business that they know will appeal and sell to women. They have a broad vision to cover everything from hair, nails and skin. The analytics of the beauty industry will continue to rise moving forward into the 21st century. An industry of this magnitude and freedom should have its own currency to escalate payments and remove third party financial institutions to allow worldwide peer-to-peer payment networks, providing more transparency, price control, and retain more value of profits made.
