Fila

Cão de Fila de São Miguel is a breed of sheep dog originating from the island of São Miguel in the Azores archipelago, Portugal. The São Miguel Fila Dog is part of the group of insular Portuguese canine breeds, together with the Barbado da Terceira and the currently considered extinct Fila da Terceira Dog, being formally and officially recognized in the competent national and international instances as an individualized breed. Molossoid type, it is a medium-sized breed, with rustic features, endowed with great intelligence, very independent and self-confident, and of great physical power, thus configuring a breed with a dominant profile. It is still today, following the centuries-old tradition of and on its island of origin, used to guard and guide cattle.
